Friday's News

TGIF!!!

We hope everyone has had a great week.

Here's what we have been up to...

Last week we went to visit my parents in Florida.  We managed to get a place on the beach and it felt like heaven.  It was a great way to get some much needed R and R.

I mean seriously, who couldn't handle this...

Ah yes, then it was back to reality.  At school our students are working on handwriting.  Is it in the curriculum? No.  Do I think it's an important skill for them to learn? Yes.
I have to say they are really enjoying it.  I have been surprised by how eager my boys are to practice their cursive writing.

Long before march break started, we began watching The Bee movie.  We finally finished it yesterday.  We tied it into media literacy by having students complete these review posters on the movie.  I really enjoyed reading what they felt was the message of the movie.  Their answers were so different, and interesting to read.

And lastly, I received the coolest mug every from my husband and daughter.  When it's cold its all black with a sleeping face.  When the mug gets filled with a warm drink, it turns white with an awake face.  For those of you who know me and know my love of coffee and unique mugs, this was the best gift ever.

Friday's News

TGIF!!!!
This week we were lucky enough to be visited by students at our local university.  We talked about how living things need food, water, and shelter. Here are some pictures of my students making shelters to withstand "hail, earthquakes, and tornadoes".  The catch.... We could only use paper and masking tape to create our shelters.

We talked about the various shapes students used.  We asked what were strong shapes?

Next, we got to look at tiny microbes (which were also living things).  We learned about what living things looked like in our bodies through a microscope.

Here is a glance through our microscope, can you guess what this is a close up of?

Finally, we have moved on from cursive letters, to cursive words.
