Friday's News

Another week in the books and up here it was a bit of a snowy one. OF course even with our PJ's on inside out and a spoon under our pillows we couldn't muster a snow day. Don't get us wrong we love our job but hey who doesn't love a snow day here and there.

Jeff has been working his way through his light and sound unit with his grade four science classes. Here are some pictures of the classes performing some of the experiments laid out in the unit.

Jeff also started teaching his students the lost art of cursive writing. This has been a big hit in his class and when the students have free time they've been using this booklet to practice. They loved the idea of signing their names at then end of the letters that they wrote to famous people.

How did your week go? What tricks of the trade did you use to make it through the week?

Friday's News

Happy Friday!
There has always been debate on wether cursive writing should be introduced, although it's not in the Ontario Curriculum.  Does your school district encourage cursive writing? We use it as a quick bell work activity.

Each day we work on one word.  I have noticed a spike in interest with our boys.

Some are even experimenting using cursive writing in their journals.

Friday's News

TGIF!!!

We hope everyone has had a great week.

Here's what we have been up to...

Last week we went to visit my parents in Florida.  We managed to get a place on the beach and it felt like heaven.  It was a great way to get some much needed R and R.

I mean seriously, who couldn't handle this...

Ah yes, then it was back to reality.  At school our students are working on handwriting.  Is it in the curriculum? No.  Do I think it's an important skill for them to learn? Yes.
I have to say they are really enjoying it.  I have been surprised by how eager my boys are to practice their cursive writing.

Long before march break started, we began watching The Bee movie.  We finally finished it yesterday.  We tied it into media literacy by having students complete these review posters on the movie.  I really enjoyed reading what they felt was the message of the movie.  Their answers were so different, and interesting to read.

And lastly, I received the coolest mug every from my husband and daughter.  When it's cold its all black with a sleeping face.  When the mug gets filled with a warm drink, it turns white with an awake face.  For those of you who know me and know my love of coffee and unique mugs, this was the best gift ever.

Friday's News

Happy Friday!

Hope everyone has had a great week.  It's sure been a busy one for us.

First of all I (Libby) am involved in a fitness online group.  It's been a great start and they have helped motivate me to run no matter what....even when the weather isn't the best.

This week we have started cursive writing.  I use the document camera to show the students how to write each letter. We are doing one letter a day.

Then, students go to their desk to practice the letter of the day.

Next, Jeff has been working hard to put out a new social studies unit.
His Ancient Civilization Unit is huge... It's got everything....

-20 lessons with extended activities to build upon student learning
-3 forms of assessments including rubrics
-1 PowerPoint or Google Slides presentation project
-Extension activities
-1 Quiz

As well as one set of extension activities that can be used cross curricular for Art, Language, Media, and Oral participation.

Ok, time to share your news...
