Five for Friday

Happy Halloween!

We are excited to link up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for their Five for Friday linky Party.

We are excited to celebrate Halloween with our students.
Today we will be linking our writing to a Halloween.

Can't wait to hear all the spooky stories.

Then we will be working on a Mad libs activity.  We plan on sharing it with each other when they are done.  I think this should bring on a lot of laughs.

This week we have had lots of fun carving pumpkins at home and at school.
I think we are almost all pumpkin-ed out.

We are really excited to get our Grammar Bundle out to you.  We have been working on this bundle with our Grade 3's.  For the next week it will be on sale for $8.
Stay tuned for more bundles to come;)

Libby is finally back in full running mode.  5am runs a few mornings a week.  May need a few extra runs after all the candy from this week.

We want to hear about you.
How are you celebrating Halloween with your students?
Is it black and orange day or costume day at your school?

Wishing everyone a safe and happy Halloween.

Five for Friday!

Today we are linking up with Doodle Bugs teaching for their five for Friday Linky Party.

For many of us on the other side of the boarder, this is our first week back to school.

It is currently Friday and I feel the picture below pretty much sums up how many of us are feeling.

Are you looking for a great book to help introduce how to write a story.  Well look no further.  My good friend over at secondgradealicious introduced me to this book last year and I can't thank her enough.

Along with this book we talked about the various elements that make up a narrative.

Next we talked about what type of graphic organizer we could use (G.O.)

Then We used this graphic organizers to us write our story.

Also, this week the students and I have been talking about nouns.  To help students remember what is a noun, we made up these posters for parts of speech.

On a personal note our daughter began Senior Kindergarten this week.  She was ready to rock and roll.  Such a big difference from all the anxiety she had last year.

As some of you know, I am also a part time planning teacher.  When I walked into a friends room and saw how she was using marbles at a sand table, well I just had to take a few pics.  The students were in heaven.  There was a glass lid on top of the table with a medium size hole.  The students would shoot the marbles around until they all went down the hole.  Then they would take the lid of the table off and run their hands all around the bottom of the bin to see where the marbles would go.

Due to the noise we put some paper at the bottom of the plastic bin to soften the sound.

Needless to say I think I will be stealing this idea the next time I'm in kindie land.

Cheers and have a great weekend everyone!

Five for Friday

Thanks to Doodle Bugs for hosting the five for Friday linky party.  We love being a part of this!
This was a great week.  We kicked it off by going to a Blue Jays game.  We discovered they have a special day just for kids and took full advantage of it.
Our daughter had her face painted, played on blowup slides, then was treated to a colouring book and a ballon-shaped poodle. She was over the moon.

We also go to go up the CN Tower.  Lucky for us it was a cloudy day, which meant we were one of 20 people up at the top.  We played on the glass floor and had lots of fun.

This week we have been busy getting ready for our students.  Here's a shot of Jeff's classroom so far.
Jeff is teaching a 3/4 split in the morning. We are just curious.  How do you set up your junior classrooms.  By groups? By lines of desks? or maybe singles?

Unfortunately I can't seem up upload the video of Jeff's baseball team doing the Ice Bucket Challenge, but rest assured, it has hit our house as well.

<Insert Happy Dance Here>
We are excited to finally get our Soccer Circuit unit up on our TPT store site.

Here's a sneak peak of one of the circuits you can find inside.

Five for Friday

A big thank you to Doogle Bugs Teaching for hosting Five for Friday.

The biggest talk around our house this week is Jeff going to the 2014 ISC Worlds Fastball Tournament.  For most of the week we have been at the ball diamonds.  Our daughter could not be more proud of her daddy.  She was so proud of him she hid his admissions bracelet so she could show her friends at camp.  After some frantic searching around the house we finally discovered it hidden in her backpack.

Jeff's baseball week became a family affair. Although we don't see Jeff's family as much as we would like, we love them lots.  Libby got this shot of our daughter chatting it up with her Aunt Nancy.

We are excited to share one of our new products with you.  Our Gym Circuit activities is ready to help ease you into teaching Phys. ed class.

Here is an example of one on the several posters included in the package.

We recently have tried to teach our daughter what a social conscience looks likes. When you do a good thing for others then good things shall come along for you. She has been fascinated with the legacy of Terry Fox and his efforts to raise funds and awareness for Cancer research. This year we decided to take part in our local Terry Fox run. In a few weeks we will be lacing up our shoes in participating in the 5 KM run/walk. She is already very excited about it.

Oh the power of social media! Earlier in the week we did a review of a great book "Thank you, Aunt Tallulah!" by Carmela LaVinga Coyle. If you haven't had a chance to read this book we highly recommend it. Here is our review of it as well. Anyhow, wouldn't you know it through the power of Twitter the author of this household/classroom favourite saw our review, retweeted it, and even started following us. I am not sure this Internet thing will catch on ;)

Five for Friday

Our First 5 for Friday!

Our first news is very exciting.  WE made it into the “Grade 3-5 Back to school Resources from TPT teacher-Authors Math, Science, and More…”

We knew it may be a long shot since we are new to the TPT and blogging world, but were ecstatic to see that we made it in.  Woohoo!!!!

This week we both celebrated finish up our courses.  No one really believes that teachers take courses during their summers off, but I assure you, it’s not a myth.

This was the week of day trips for our family.  We went to the Lion Safari and Ripley’s Aquarium.  Both trips were amazing.  Libby’s dad decided to brave both day trips with a 4 year old and the two of us.
At the Lion Safari we got to get up and close to many animals.  The fun was watching our daughters reaction to them all.  Here are a few pictures from the trip.
Thank goodness for a bus tour that allowed us to get so close to the animals.  Here's a shot of our favourite animal, the Giraffe.

Libby and our daughter in line for the train ride.

Libby's Dad, Jeff and our daughter on the boat tour.

Glad we were in a bus when seeing the Lions.  What an amazing animal.

The next day we were on to Ripley’s Aquarium in Toronto.  It was incredible.  After our daughter finally realized that the sharks really couldn’t come through the glass, we were all able to sit back in awe of what really goes on below the surface.
A shark Swimming over top of us.

Another shark.  There were lots.  It was amazing.

Our daughter in the kids area.

The results of our contest from TPT Sale….. and the winner is…… Libby!!!!!  However Jeff made an amazing comeback the next day.

We had some fun working on our “All About Me” Pennants.  Our daughter couldn’t resist helping us when she saw Libby printing them off.

If you are interested in these “All About Me” Pennants you can find them  using the link below.
